PADDLES & PAGES BY BOOKED
A sunset reading experience on the HUDSON RIVER
WEDNESday, aUGUST 26
Manhattan Kayak Co. at Pier 84
6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Summer reading in NYC usually means posting up on a park bench, juggling your book with your trusty hand fan on a crowded subway ride, or opting to stay home in front of your window AC unit, trying to escape the skyscrapers’ suffocating heat. This is something entirely different.
Join Booked for a 90‑minute floating reading session on the Hudson! After an easy and quick paddle out to the signature starburst formation, your board becomes a stable base for golden‑hour reading. No athleticism required. No need to stand. Just settle in, crack open your book (or turn on your Kindle) and enjoy the city from a perspective most New Yorkers never experience.
We’ll tie up together, read, chat about our current books, share recommendations, and soak up the glow of the skyline as the sun sets over the water.
This is Booked’s very first event. It’s an intimate, 10‑person gathering designed to feel like the beginning of a small, special community. We’d love for you to be part of the first chapter!

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need paddleboarding experience?
Not at all. This experience is designed for total beginners. It’s a very short paddle to the starburst, and you can stay seated or kneeling the entire time for maximum stability. Once we’re tied up, the anchored platform keeps everything steady so you can relax and enjoy your book without worrying about balance.
What to bring
Comfortable clothes
Sandals or old sneakers that are OK to get wet
Gym lock if you wish to use a locker (or rent one for $5)
Water bottle (there is a filling station)
Your current read
A towel if you plan on rinsing off after (an outdoor rinse station is available)
What if I fall off my board?
Then you’ll join a long and proud tradition of paddleboarders before you. It’s unlikely, but if it happens, the water is tested weekly and safe for a quick dunk.
What are the changing facilities like?
You’ll have access to on‑site changing rooms and secure lockers. An outdoor rinse station is available if you’d like to freshen up before heading to dinner or your next stop.
What happens if it rains?
Weather on the water can be unpredictable. If conditions are safe, the event will proceed as scheduled. In the event of thunderstorms, high winds, or other conditions that make time on the water unsafe, we'll cancel or reschedule the event. Guests will be notified via email no later than 24–48 hours before the event. If a reschedule becomes necessary, all registered guests will have the option to transfer their ticket to the new date.
Can I come alone?
Absolutely — and many guests will. Booked events are designed for natural, low‑pressure connection. No awkward icebreakers, no forced networking, no “two truths and a lie.” Just shared books, shared views, and shared vibes.
